Zenless Zone Zero is primarily a single-player action RPG with real-time dodging, parrying, and Chain Attack mechanics. Most combat outcomes are determined locally with server validation — an 80-130ms ping is generally playable without major disruption. However, the dodge-counter and dodge-flash timing windows (typically 100-200ms) become harder to execute reliably above ~100ms ping (the sub-100ms QoE threshold per Henderson & Bhatti 2003 FPS study, applied here to action-RPG flash-dodge windows of similar duration). Co-op content (Notorious Hunt and multiplayer modes added post-launch) increases sensitivity as it requires coordinated attacks between multiple players. The game is notably more forgiving than PvP-focused games: single-player story content is largely unaffected by moderate ping, while co-op boss raids can feel sluggish above 150ms.

Zenless Zone Zero (ZZZ) is a free-to-play action role-playing game developed and published by miHoYo under the HoYoverse brand. Released on July 4, 2024 for PC (Windows), iOS, Android, and PlayStation 5 — with an Xbox Series X/S port following on June 6, 2025 — the game is set in the post-apocalyptic city of New Eridu, the last surviving metropolis on Earth. Dangerous dimensional anomalies called Hollows have engulfed the world, spawning hostile creatures known as Ethereals. Players take the role of a Proxy who runs a video store as a front while secretly navigating and managing access into Hollows. The real-time combat system features fast-paced chained combos, dodge-counters, and special Chain Attacks triggered by switching between up to three characters mid-battle. The game draws clear influence from Persona 5, Digimon World, and Street Fighter in its visual design and mechanics.

Zenless Zone Zero is miHoYo's fourth major live-service title, following Honkai Impact 3rd, Genshin Impact, and Honkai: Star Rail. It shares the same HoYoverse live-service infrastructure — four global server regions (America, Europe, Asia, TW/HK/MO), patch cycles every six weeks, and Alibaba Cloud as a primary cloud infrastructure partner. The game generated approximately $96–100 million in mobile revenue during its launch month alone, and reached $442.1 million in total mobile earnings over its first year. The PC and console versions add substantially to those totals. Despite not reaching the global cultural impact of Genshin Impact, ZZZ maintains a healthy multi-million player base and a dedicated community in East and Southeast Asia, Europe, and North America.
