Known Lag Problems

These problems are reported by real players. If your region or ISP is listed, a network optimizer is likely to help.

Brazil

150-250ms
  • Brazilian players on NA servers report 150-250ms latency due to limited São Paulo–East Coast US peering
  • Brazilian ISPs (Vivo, Claro, NET/Claro) route international traffic through Miami which adds hops to NA game servers
Affected ISPs: VivoClaroNET/Claro

Russia / CIS

80-180ms
  • CIS players often play on EU servers — routing from Russia through Eastern Europe varies significantly by ISP
  • Post-2022 network sanctions impacted some international routing paths for Russian ISPs
  • Players report 80-180ms to EU servers depending on city and ISP
Affected ISPs: RostelecomMTSBeeline

Southeast Asia

180-350ms to NA/EU servers
  • SEA players on NA or EU servers face 180-350ms baseline latency
  • Some SEA ISPs route through suboptimal peering points adding extra hops

What players commonly report

  • High ping for cross-region players (EU on NA, CIS on EU)
  • Random disconnects caused by GameGuard conflicts with antivirus
  • Lag during large-scale castle siege events (100+ players)
  • GameGuard false positives blocking legitimate software
  • Packet loss issues on Brazilian and SEA ISPs

How to Fix It

Try these first — they're free and solve the problem for most people.

01 Check your ping to the game server using Windows Resource Monitor

1. Launch Lineage 2 and log in to your character 2. Open Task Manager (Ctrl+Shift+Esc) 3. Go to the Performance tab and click 'Open Resource Monitor' 4. In Resource Monitor, go to the Network tab 5. Put a check mark next to 'l2.exe' in the process list 6. Look at the Latency column on the far right — this is your ping to the game server in ms 7. Watch during a siege or dungeon — if latency spikes above 200ms, your connection is the bottleneck

Lineage 2 has no built-in ping display for regular players (the //ping command is GM-only). Resource Monitor is the most reliable way to see your actual round-trip time to the game server without installing third-party tools.

02 Use a wired Ethernet connection instead of WiFi

1. Connect your PC directly to your router with an Ethernet cable 2. In Windows Settings > Network, verify the Ethernet adapter shows as connected 3. If both WiFi and Ethernet are active, Windows usually prefers Ethernet automatically 4. Check in Resource Monitor (Network tab > l2.exe > Latency column) if your ping drops and becomes more stable

WiFi adds 5-30ms of latency and introduces jitter — both hurt TCP-based games like Lineage 2 more than UDP games, because TCP retransmits lost packets and a single lost WiFi frame stalls the stream. Ethernet eliminates this.

03 Add GameGuard exceptions to your antivirus

1. Locate your Lineage 2 installation folder (usually C:\Program Files (x86)\NCsoft\Lineage II\system) 2. In your antivirus software, add the entire Lineage 2 folder as an exclusion 3. Specifically add: l2.exe, GameMon.des (or GameMon64.des) 4. Restart Lineage 2 after making changes 5. If using Windows Defender: Settings > Windows Security > Virus & threat protection > Manage settings > Add or remove exclusions

GameGuard conflicts with antivirus real-time scanning, causing connection interruptions and error codes (114, 150, 360). Excluding the game folder prevents the antivirus from interfering with GameGuard's network monitoring, reducing random disconnects.

General network tips (not Lineage 2-specific)
04 Close background applications during sieges

1. Before a castle siege, close all non-essential applications 2. Priority to close: torrent clients, Windows Update, cloud sync (OneDrive, Dropbox), game launchers downloading updates 3. Open Task Manager (Ctrl+Shift+Esc) > Performance > Open Resource Monitor > Network tab 4. Identify any process consuming more than 100 KB/s and close it

Lineage 2 uses TCP, which is especially vulnerable to bandwidth contention — background uploads/downloads compete for the same pipe and cause TCP backpressure, increasing in-game latency noticeably during high-player-count sieges.

Regions with good connectivity

Players in these regions likely won't benefit much from a network optimizer.

  • Western Europe — EU servers (4Game) are well-located for Western European players — 10-50ms typical ping for DE/FR/NL/UK players
  • Korea — Korean servers are the original and best-supported; KR players on KR servers get sub-20ms typical

Still lagging? The problem is likely your ISP's routing to the game servers.

PingAim detects Lineage 2 automatically

No manual config. PingAim identifies Lineage 2 by process name and routes it through your fastest connection using a kernel-level WFP driver.
