Known Lag Problems

These problems are reported by real players. If your region or ISP is listed, a network optimizer is likely to help.

Australia / Oceania

80-150ms to SEA
  • No dedicated OCE server — players must use SEA servers (Singapore), resulting in 80-150ms baseline
  • Steam community threads document frustration with lack of local servers since launch

South America (non-Brazil)

80-200ms depending on country
  • SA servers appear to be Brazil-hosted; players in Argentina, Colombia, Mexico may see 80-200ms
  • Smaller server pool (fewer named servers than NA/EU) means higher server population density

What players commonly report

  • Rubber-banding and lag during raid boss fights and world boss events
  • In-game ping display was missing on PC until version 3.8 (April 2024) — a long-requested feature
  • Anti-cheat driver (ksophon) persists after game exit, occasionally causing BSODs
  • No Oceania/Australia server — OCE players forced to use SEA with 100ms+ ping
  • Server lag during peak hours in SEA region specifically during world events

How to Fix It

Try these first — they're free and solve the problem for most people.

01 Choose the right server region at character creation

1. When creating a new character, select your region first (NA, EU, SA, SEA, JP) 2. Within the region, check the server status indicator: Green = smooth, Yellow = moderate traffic, Red = queue 3. Choose a green-status server in your region for the best baseline ping 4. Note: characters are locked to their server — this choice is permanent without re-rolling

Selecting a server in a different region than your location can add 80-300ms of latency. Getting this right at character creation avoids needing external tools entirely.

02 Use a wired Ethernet connection instead of WiFi

1. Connect your PC to your router with an Ethernet cable 2. Disable your WiFi adapter in Windows (Settings > Network > WiFi > toggle off) 3. Relaunch Tower of Fantasy 4. Check ping using the mobile workaround above to compare before/after

WiFi adds 5-20ms of latency and introduces jitter (ping variation). In Tower of Fantasy's action combat, jitter causes dodge inputs and skill casts to feel inconsistent. A wired connection removes this entirely at zero cost.

General network tips (not Tower of Fantasy-specific)
03 Check your ping in Tower of Fantasy on PC

1. Launch Tower of Fantasy on PC (version 3.8 or later) 2. Look above the minimap — your ping to the server is displayed there in milliseconds 3. If your ping is consistently above 100ms or spikes heavily, your routing path to the server may be suboptimal 4. On mobile, ping is also shown automatically in the top-left corner of the screen

Since version 3.8 (April 2024), Tower of Fantasy shows ping natively on PC above the minimap. Below 60ms is excellent, 60-120ms is normal for most regions, above 150ms indicates routing issues.

04 Close background bandwidth-heavy apps before raids

1. Press Ctrl+Shift+Esc to open Task Manager 2. Click the 'Network' column to sort by network usage 3. Close anything actively using bandwidth: torrents, cloud backups (OneDrive, Google Drive syncing), Windows Update, Discord video calls 4. If someone else on your network is streaming 4K video, ask them to pause during your raid

Background bandwidth contention causes jitter — your ping spikes unpredictably during team fights when another app bursts data. Clearing the connection before a raid boss attempt removes these random spikes.

05 Switch to Google or Cloudflare DNS

1. Open Control Panel > Network and Internet > Network Connections 2. Right-click your active adapter > Properties 3. Select 'Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)' > Properties 4. Set Preferred DNS to 8.8.8.8 (Google) or 1.1.1.1 (Cloudflare) 5. Set Alternate DNS to 8.8.4.4 or 1.0.0.1 6. Click OK and relaunch the game

Slow DNS resolution can cause delayed game login and matchmaking joins. It doesn't affect in-game ping, but reduces the time to connect to Tower of Fantasy's servers and fixes some 'unable to connect' errors.

Regions with good connectivity

Players in these regions likely won't benefit much from a network optimizer.

  • Southeast Asia — Dedicated SEA server cluster; largest player population region; recommended for SEA, South Korea (as JP alternative), and OCE players
  • Western Europe — Large EU server pool with multiple named servers; good coverage for EU players

Still lagging? The problem is likely your ISP's routing to the game servers.
