Does PingAim work with Terraria? Why does Terraria lag specifically during boss fights?

Does PingAim work with Terraria?

Yes. PingAim auto-detects Terraria.exe and routes its TCP traffic through your optimal network interface using a WFP kernel driver. Terraria has no anti-cheat, so there is zero risk of bans. For tModLoader modded sessions, add tModLoader.exe as an additional process in PingAim settings.

Why does Terraria lag specifically during boss fights?

Boss fights generate significantly more network traffic — projectile positions, enemy AI state, hit events, and item drops all need to sync across all connected players simultaneously. This burst of data can exceed what a congested or jittery connection handles smoothly. TCP's ordered delivery means one dropped packet during a boss fight stalls everything until it is retransmitted, causing a brief freeze that can get you hit.

What is a good ping for Terraria multiplayer?

Below 80ms is smooth for co-op. 80-150ms is playable but you will notice rubber-banding on other players and enemies. Above 150ms causes obvious desync — boss hitboxes feel wrong, items may appear to teleport. Stability matters more than raw ping: a consistent 100ms is better than a ping that jumps between 30ms and 200ms.

Can I get banned for using PingAim with Terraria?

No. Terraria does not use VAC or any third-party anti-cheat system. PingAim routes traffic at the Windows network level and does not modify the game in any way.

Why does joining via Steam give worse ping than direct IP?

When you join a friend's game using Steam's invite system, the connection may be routed through Steam's relay (SDR) servers. This adds 1-2 extra network hops even if you and your friend are in the same city. Joining via direct IP bypasses the relay entirely and connects you straight to the host's machine.

Does PingAim work with tModLoader?

Yes. Add tModLoader.exe as a process in PingAim alongside or instead of Terraria.exe. tModLoader runs as a separate Steam app (App ID 1281930) and replaces the main game executable for modded sessions.

PingAim detects Terraria automatically

No manual config. PingAim identifies Terraria by process name and routes it through your fastest connection using a kernel-level WFP driver.
