Does PingAim work with Squad? What is a good ping for Squad?

Does PingAim work with Squad?

Yes. PingAim uses a WFP (Windows Filtering Platform) kernel driver to route Squad traffic through a dedicated second connection — such as a 5G phone hotspot or a second Ethernet adapter — rather than your congested primary connection. This method operates at the Windows network stack level without DLL injection, making it fully compatible with EasyAntiCheat. PingAim attaches to SquadGame.exe and routes its UDP traffic (port 7787) through the faster available interface. Since Squad does not use Steam Datagram Relay, your traffic goes directly to the community server IP, giving PingAim full visibility into the path.

What is a good ping for Squad?

Under 80ms for comfortable tactical play. Squad's server-authoritative netcode with UE4 client prediction makes it more forgiving of moderate ping than games with no prediction, but above 100ms you will notice rubber-banding on other players, voice chat timing becoming slightly off, and vehicle controls feeling sluggish. Competitive squad leaders target under 60ms on their primary server so tactical call-outs and kill confirmations arrive quickly. The server browser shows your real ping to each server before you join — always sort by ping and pick the lowest available server in your region.

Why does Squad rubber-band even with decent ping?

Rubber-banding in Squad has two separate causes: your own ping to the server, and the server's performance under load. Squad servers with 100 players and active vehicle and infantry combat process enormous amounts of game state per tick. If the server is underpowered or poorly configured, all players experience rubber-banding even at low ping. Use 'stat net' in the console to see your own ping, then check if other players in the server are reporting the same issue in chat — if they are, it's the server, not your connection. If your ping is stable and low but you still rubber-band, switch to a better-administered server.

Does Squad use Steam Datagram Relay (SDR)?

No. Squad connects players directly to community server IPs without routing through Valve's SDR relay network. This means server IPs are visible in tools like BattleMetrics, and your network path to the server is entirely whatever your ISP provides. Unlike Valve's own games (CS2, Dota 2) where SDR provides a baseline of routing optimization, Squad players get no such infrastructure benefit — making a stable, low-jitter connection more important.

Are there official Squad servers or is it all community-run?

Squad is almost entirely community-operated. Offworld Industries does not run a large fleet of first-party servers the way some developers do. Instead, they operate a server licensing program — community groups and hosting providers apply for a server license and agree to administration policies. Official hosting partner G-Portal and providers like GTX Gaming operate servers globally. This means server quality varies — a well-administered 60 Hz server plays very differently from a poorly configured one.

Does Squad support Linux or have Proton compatibility issues?

Squad officially only supports Windows. Proton compatibility is limited by EasyAntiCheat — EAC requires Windows for its kernel-level driver to function. While Epic Games has added EAC Linux support for some games, Squad has not enabled this. Running Squad on Linux via Proton is not officially supported and will typically fail or be restricted from joining EAC-protected servers.

PingAim detects Squad automatically

No manual config. PingAim identifies Squad by process name and routes it through your fastest connection using a kernel-level WFP driver.
