RuneScape has 5 server regions worldwide.
US East
Washington, D.C. area (Ashburn, VA) High population Jagex consolidated all US East Coast servers to Washington in February 2023, discontinuing the Miami datacenters. Serves North American players and is the primary non-UK server cluster. US West
San Jose / San Francisco, California Medium population Separate world cluster for western US and Canadian players. Lower population than US East. United Kingdom
London, England Very high population Jagex's home region and primary datacenter. Hosts the highest number of worlds. Most European players connect here. Servers are identified by world numbers in the 1-100 range traditionally. Germany
Frankfurt, Germany Medium population Added as Jagex expanded EU coverage. Some German worlds are physically hosted in UK datacenters per RuneScape Wiki data. Australia
Sydney / Melbourne, Australia Medium population Australian worlds were subject to a datacenter service incident in June 2024 (temporarily offline). Jagex has invested in AUS infrastructure with multiple service updates in 2024. Essential for Oceanian players — without AU worlds, they face 250-300ms+ to UK/US servers. Connection: Dedicated servers
All game sessions run on Valve-hosted or publisher-hosted servers. Your connection quality depends entirely on the routing between your ISP and the data center.
