Does PingAim work with Phasmophobia? Why do ghost events feel delayed even with good internet?

Does PingAim work with Phasmophobia?

Yes. Phasmophobia has no anti-cheat system that would interfere with PingAim. PingAim uses a WFP (Windows Filtering Platform) kernel driver to route Phasmophobia.exe's UDP traffic through a second network connection — your phone's 5G hotspot, a second WiFi adapter, or any other available interface. If that second connection reaches Photon's relay node with lower latency or less jitter than your primary connection, Phasmophobia benefits. Setup is automatic: PingAim detects Phasmophobia.exe and applies routing without any in-game configuration.

Why do ghost events feel delayed even with good internet?

Ghost behavior in Phasmophobia runs on the host player's machine — the Master Client. If the host has high ping to the Photon relay node, or high ping to you specifically (via the relay), all ghost events arrive late for everyone in the lobby. This is the host-dependency problem of Photon PUN 2. If you're the host and events feel delayed for others, your own connection to the Photon relay is the bottleneck. If you're a guest and events feel delayed, check who is hosting — asking someone with better connectivity to host is the fastest fix.

Does Phasmophobia use P2P or dedicated servers?

Neither in the traditional sense. Phasmophobia uses Photon PUN 2, which is a relay-based system. All traffic flows through Photon's globally distributed relay servers — packets from your PC go to a Photon data center, which forwards them to all other players. One player is designated the Master Client (host) for game logic authority, but this is not true P2P. Since all traffic transits Photon infrastructure, you never connect directly to other players' IP addresses.

Why can't I connect to a lobby? I get stuck on 'Connecting'

The most common cause is your ISP or router blocking Photon's default UDP port range 5055-5058. Fix: go to Phasmophobia Settings → enable 'Use Alternative Ports' to switch to ports 27000-27002. Other causes: your router's NAT type is too strict (set NAT to 'Open' or 'Moderate' in router settings), or your firewall is blocking the game. Also check Photon's server status at status.photonengine.com.

Does ping affect Phasmophobia gameplay significantly?

Less than in competitive shooters, but yes — it matters during active hunts. Ghost investigations are slow-paced and forgiving of latency. However, when a ghost enters hunting mode, it moves toward players in real time and can kill them. At 200ms+, ghost movement and door interactions feel sluggish and unpredictable. EMF readers, spirit boxes, and other evidence tools that rely on real-time ghost responses also feel delayed. Under 100ms to the Photon relay node, the game feels responsive. Above 200ms, hunts become noticeably harder due to reaction timing.

Does Phasmophobia have VR support? Does that affect network requirements?

Yes — Phasmophobia fully supports VR via SteamVR, and VR and non-VR players can share the same lobby. VR mode does not change network requirements. The game uses the same Photon relay infrastructure regardless of how you play. VR adds no additional network overhead beyond the standard game state sync. If anything, VR mode may use slightly lower non-gameplay rendering data since immersive play focuses on the local VR environment rather than a traditional screen.

PingAim detects Phasmophobia automatically

No manual config. PingAim identifies Phasmophobia by process name and routes it through your fastest connection using a kernel-level WFP driver.
