Path of Exile has 5 server regions worldwide.

US East
New York / Virginia Very high population Primary North American server. Most active region for NA players and a common target for EU players with good transatlantic connections.
Europe
Germany / Frankfurt Very high population Primary European server. Germany location confirmed by community ping tests and GGG forum posts. Largest league start traffic region outside US.
Australia / Oceania
Sydney Medium population Dedicated AU server to serve Oceanic players — important given GGG is based in New Zealand. Reduces the historically painful AU/NZ latency to US East.
Japan / Asia
Tokyo Medium population Asia-Pacific server primarily serving JP/KR/TW players. Garena operates separate regional servers for Southeast Asia (Thailand, Indonesia, Philippines, etc.).
Garena SEA
Southeast Asia (varies) Medium population Garena operates Path of Exile under a separate publishing agreement in SEA markets. Players in these regions are served by Garena's infrastructure, not GGG's direct servers. Different client, different account system.
Connection: Dedicated servers

All game sessions run on Valve-hosted or publisher-hosted servers. Your connection quality depends entirely on the routing between your ISP and the data center.
