MORDHAU Lag Issues & Fixes — 5 Tips That Actually Work

Known lag problems and proven fixes for MORDHAU. Regional issues, ISP problems, and 5 optimization tips.

Fighting Triternion, 2019

Known Lag Problems

These problems are reported by real players. If your region or ISP is listed, a network optimizer is likely to help.

South America

150-250ms to nearest populated server
  • SA server population is low — players often forced onto NA East or EU servers with 150–250ms ping
  • Brazilian ISPs frequently route to NA East via inefficient paths

Oceania

200-300ms to EU/NA servers
  • Oceania server population is very low post-2021 — players report finding no populated official servers
  • Many AU players connect to EU servers (200–300ms) due to lack of local population

What players commonly report

  • Hit registration feels off at higher ping — animations desync from server state
  • Ping spikes during large Frontline battles (64–80 players stresses server tick rate)
  • Server browser shows high ping to most servers outside home region
  • Cheating concerns due to absence of kernel-level anti-cheat

How to Fix It

Try these first — they're free and solve the problem for most people.

01 Use a wired Ethernet connection instead of WiFi

1. Plug an Ethernet cable directly from your PC to your router 2. Disable WiFi in Windows Settings > Network & Internet > WiFi 3. Relaunch MORDHAU and recheck your scoreboard ping 4. Compare with your WiFi ping — the difference is usually 5–20ms with lower jitter

Eliminates WiFi jitter spikes that cause animation desync in close-quarters duels. Most impactful if your router is far from your PC or if the WiFi channel is congested.

02 Filter servers by ping in the server browser

1. Open MORDHAU and go to the Server Browser 2. Click the Filters button 3. Set Max Ping to 80ms (or lower for competitive play) 4. Only servers within this latency range will appear — always join the server with the lowest ping that has players

Prevents joining servers where your ping makes the combat timing unplayable. MORDHAU's melee system becomes significantly harder above 100ms — limiting to 80ms or below ensures animations stay readable.

03 Close bandwidth-heavy background apps before playing

1. Before launching MORDHAU, check Task Manager (Ctrl+Shift+Esc) > Performance > Ethernet/WiFi 2. Look for apps consuming bandwidth: Steam downloads, Windows Update, cloud backups, browsers with video 3. Pause Steam downloads: Steam > Downloads > Pause 4. Pause Windows Update downloads: Settings > Windows Update > Pause Updates 5. Recheck ping in MORDHAU scoreboard

Background downloads create bursty bandwidth spikes that translate directly to ping spikes mid-fight. In melee combat where 20ms timing windows matter, even a brief 200ms spike from a background download can cost you a duel.

04 Run WinMTR to diagnose routing problems

1. Download WinMTR from winmtr.net (free, portable) 2. Join a MORDHAU server and stay connected 3. In WinMTR, enter the server's IP (visible in the Server Browser details panel) 4. Run for at least 5 minutes during active play 5. Look for packet loss (%) on any hop — loss at hop 3–6 typically means ISP routing problems that a second connection can bypass

Identifies whether high ping is caused by your ISP's routing (fixable by using a second connection via PingAim) or by the game server itself (unfixable). If a specific hop shows >5% loss, your ISP is routing you inefficiently to that server.

General network tips (not MORDHAU-specific)
05 Check your ping in the MORDHAU scoreboard

1. Join any server 2. Press Tab to open the scoreboard 3. Your ping is shown next to your name in the rightmost column 4. Watch it during active combat — spikes here confirm a network issue, not a game skill issue

Doesn't fix anything — but shows you exactly where the problem is. If ping jumps above 80ms during fights, combat timing will feel off. If ping is stable below 40ms but combat still feels wrong, it's likely server-side or a local CPU bottleneck.

Regions with good connectivity

Players in these regions likely won't benefit much from a network optimizer.

  • Western and Central Europe — Largest player population. EU Frankfurt servers well-populated. Sub-50ms for most EU players.
  • North America East — Second largest population. Decent server availability, though lower than EU.

Still lagging? The problem is likely your ISP's routing to the game servers.

PingAim detects MORDHAU automatically

No manual config. PingAim identifies MORDHAU by process name and routes it through your fastest connection using a kernel-level WFP driver.
