Known Lag Problems
These problems are reported by real players. If your region or ISP is listed, a network optimizer is likely to help.
South America
120-200ms to US East- No South America server region — players must connect to US East or US Central
- Brazil to US East typically 120-180ms depending on ISP and routing through Miami
- High latency makes co-op desync especially frequent for SA players
Middle East
50-120ms to EU West- No Middle East server region — closest is EU West (Frankfurt) or EU East (Warsaw)
- Turkey and Israel typically 50-80ms to EU East
- Gulf states (UAE, Saudi Arabia) see 60-120ms to EU West
How to Fix It
Try these first — they're free and solve the problem for most people.
01 Check your actual ping inside Last Epoch
1. Launch the game and log in to Online mode 2. Load into any zone 3. Press Escape → Options → Gameplay 4. Look for the 'Show Latency' or ping display option — enable it 5. Alternatively, your current server latency is shown in the bottom-right of the login screen next to the server region selector 6. Watch for spikes above 100ms — if ping jumps 50ms+ mid-session, that is jitter causing desync, not just high average ping
Confirms whether your desync is network jitter or server-side overload. If your ping is stable but you still experience rubber-banding, the issue is server-side capacity (common at season launches) — no client fix applies.
02 Manually select the correct server region
1. On the Last Epoch login screen, look for the globe icon or 'Server Region' selector in the bottom area 2. Click it to open the region list 3. Select the region closest to your physical location (US East, EU West, Asia Southeast, etc.) 4. You can also change region in Settings → Gameplay → Server Region 5. Log in again after changing — the game connects to the new region immediately 6. Note: the game auto-selects a region by default, but at 1.0 launch and early patches, EU players were incorrectly routed to US Central — always verify your region manually
The single most effective free fix. Going from an unintended 150ms US server to a 30ms EU server eliminates almost all desync immediately. EHG patched the EU-to-US routing bug in Feb 2024, but manual verification is still recommended after any major patch.
03 Switch to a wired Ethernet connection
1. Get a Cat5e or Cat6 Ethernet cable — plug one end into your PC, the other into your router 2. In Windows: open Settings → Network & Internet → Wi-Fi → toggle Wi-Fi off 3. Your PC automatically uses the wired connection 4. Relaunch Last Epoch and check ping stability — WiFi jitter is a common source of skill desync in this game
WiFi adds 5-30ms of unpredictable jitter on top of your base ping. In Last Epoch, jitter (variation in ping) causes skill animations to complete locally but effects to land late on the server — the most frustrating form of desync. A wired connection is free if you have cable, and it directly eliminates a major jitter source.
04 Close background applications that compete for bandwidth
1. Press Ctrl+Shift+Esc → Task Manager → Performance → Open Resource Monitor 2. Click the Network tab, sort by 'Total (B/sec)' 3. Common bandwidth consumers: Windows Update (Settings → Update → Pause 7 days), cloud backups (OneDrive, Google Drive), torrents, Spotify, Discord video calls 4. Close or pause everything non-essential before launching Last Epoch 5. Particularly important during season launches when both your network and EHG's servers are under load
Background uploads and downloads create burst traffic that spikes your ping by 30-150ms for brief windows. In Last Epoch, these spikes create the desync pattern where skills seem to work, then roll back — classic jitter behavior. Eliminating competing traffic removes this pattern entirely.
General network tips (not Last Epoch-specific)
05 Play Online for trading, Offline to test if issues are network or client
1. On character creation, choose 'Offline' for a fresh character 2. Play through the same zone where you experienced lag or desync online 3. If the game is perfectly smooth in Offline mode, your issue is network or server-side (Online mode) 4. If the game stutters in Offline mode too, the issue is your PC hardware (GPU, CPU, RAM) — network optimization will not help 5. Offline characters cannot be converted to Online and have no trading or leaderboard access — this is for testing only
Definitively separates network/server issues from client hardware issues. Many players attribute PC performance stutters to lag when they are actually FPS-limited. This test takes 5 minutes and immediately tells you which direction to troubleshoot.
Regions with good connectivity
Players in these regions likely won't benefit much from a network optimizer.
- Western Europe — EU West (Frankfurt/Amsterdam) provides 10-40ms for most Western European players. EU East covers Eastern Europe at 20-50ms. Two EU regions is an unusual advantage for an indie ARPG.
- Eastern US — US East covers the majority of US players well. US Central adds coverage for Midwest. Most East Coast players achieve sub-50ms to US East.
- Japan / South Korea — Asia Northeast (Tokyo/Seoul) provides 10-30ms for Japanese and Korean players — good coverage for a significant ARPG market.
- Australia — Two Australian regions (Southeast Sydney and West Perth) is better coverage than most games provide for the AU/NZ market.
Still lagging? The problem is likely your ISP's routing to the game servers.
PingAim detects Last Epoch automatically
No manual config. PingAim identifies Last Epoch by process name and routes it through your fastest connection using a kernel-level WFP driver.
