Known Lag Problems

These problems are reported by real players. If your region or ISP is listed, a network optimizer is likely to help.

Southeast Asia (Philippines, Indonesia)

80-250ms to Asia server
  • Many SEA ISPs have poor peering with Alibaba Cloud's Asia server infrastructure
  • PLDT and other Philippine ISPs route Asia server traffic inefficiently, resulting in 150-250ms ping despite geographic proximity to Singapore
  • Indonesian ISPs (Telkom, Indihome) frequently show 100-200ms to the Asia server
  • Asia server is the most crowded globally — periods of high load can compound latency issues
Affected ISPs: PLDTConverge ICTTelkom IndonesiaIndihome

Middle East

80-180ms to Europe server
  • Middle East players assigned to Europe server, which may not have local PoP — routing goes through European core infrastructure
  • Players in Turkey, Saudi Arabia, UAE report 80-150ms to Europe server
  • No dedicated Middle East server — all traffic routed to same Europe region as Western European players

Oceania (Australia, New Zealand)

100-200ms to Asia server
  • Australian players are assigned to the Asia server — no dedicated Oceania server exists
  • Routing from Australia to Singapore adds 60-100ms of geographic latency alone
  • Combined with ISP routing inefficiencies, many AU players see 120-200ms consistently
  • No prospect of a dedicated AU/NZ server announced by HoYoverse
Affected ISPs: TelstraOptus

How to Fix It

Try these first — they're free and solve the problem for most people.

01 Verify you are on the correct regional server

1. On the login screen, check the server displayed in the top-right corner 2. The four servers are: America, Europe, Asia, TW/HK/MO 3. Choose the server closest to your physical location 4. Note: switching servers means creating a new account — your progress does not transfer 5. If you created your account on the wrong server years ago, you may be stuck with high ping indefinitely unless you use a network optimizer

If you are on the wrong regional server, no optimization can help — the fundamental path is too long. Being on the right server is the most impactful baseline fix.

02 Switch to wired Ethernet and disable WiFi

1. Connect your PC to the router with an Ethernet cable 2. Open Windows Settings > Network & Internet > WiFi > toggle Off 3. Or open Device Manager, find Network Adapters, right-click WiFi adapter > Disable 4. Relaunch the game and check the ping indicator again

Eliminates WiFi jitter and wireless packet loss that causes disconnections and rubber-banding. Most impactful for players on 2.4GHz WiFi.

03 Use the HoYoverse launcher repair function

1. Open HoYoPlay (the HoYoverse launcher) 2. Click on Honkai: Star Rail in the game list 3. Click the gear/settings icon next to the Play button 4. Select 'Repair Game Files' or 'Check Files' 5. Wait for the scan and repair to complete 6. Relaunch the game

Fixes connection errors caused by corrupted local game files that prevent proper server communication. Not related to ISP routing, but resolves 'network error' codes caused by local file issues.

General network tips (not Honkai: Star Rail-specific)
04 Check your connection using Windows Resource Monitor

1. Launch Honkai: Star Rail and enter the game world 2. Alt-Tab to desktop and open Resource Monitor (search 'resmon' in Start menu) 3. Go to the Network tab 4. Check the box next to StarRail.exe 5. In the TCP Connections panel below, look at the Latency column for your connection to HoYoverse servers 6. Below 80ms = good. 80-150ms = playable. Above 150ms = investigate your connection.

HSR does not have a confirmed built-in ping display. Resource Monitor shows your actual latency to game servers.

05 Flush DNS cache and reset network stack

1. Press Windows key, search for 'Command Prompt' 2. Right-click > Run as Administrator 3. Type and run each command: ipconfig /flushdns netsh winsock reset netsh int ip reset 4. Restart your PC 5. Relaunch Honkai: Star Rail

Fixes sudden connection issues after Windows updates or ISP changes. Quick fix requiring just a few minutes.

06 Close background bandwidth applications

Before playing, close or pause: Windows Update downloads, Steam/Epic downloads, cloud sync (OneDrive/Dropbox), streaming apps. Use Task Manager to identify high-bandwidth processes.

Prevents bandwidth saturation that causes packet loss, particularly relevant on connections under 50 Mbps.

Still lagging? The problem is likely your ISP's routing to the game servers.

PingAim detects Honkai: Star Rail automatically

No manual config. PingAim identifies Honkai: Star Rail by process name and routes it through your fastest connection using a kernel-level WFP driver.
