Dead by Daylight Lag Issues & Fixes — 6 Tips That Actually Work

Known lag problems and proven fixes for Dead by Daylight. Regional issues, ISP problems, and 6 optimization tips.

Survival Behaviour Interactive, 2016 8-10M monthly across all platforms, ~1.3M monthly on Steam

Known Lag Problems

These problems are reported by real players. If your region or ISP is listed, a network optimizer is likely to help.

Oceania (Australia / New Zealand)

20-50ms local, 150-250ms when matched on SEA
  • OCE players frequently matched on SEA servers with 150-250ms+ ping since patch 8.0.0
  • Matchmaking expansion merges OCE and SEA player pools, sending OCE players to Singapore servers
  • Smaller player base means longer queues, pushing matchmaking to expand regionally
  • Killer powers become unusable at 200ms+ ping — Killer mains especially affected

South America (non-Brazil)

60-150ms
  • Only one SA server in Sao Paulo — players in Argentina, Chile, Colombia get 60-120ms
  • Chilean and Argentine players route through international links to reach Sao Paulo
  • No dedicated servers closer to western South America

India

30-60ms when India server active, 150-200ms to Singapore fallback
  • India server (Mumbai) is new and still being tuned — periodically enabled/disabled
  • When India server is offline, players route to Singapore (150-200ms)
  • Population is low, leading to longer queue times or cross-region matchmaking

What players commonly report

  • Hits landing through windows and around corners (desync)
  • OCE/SEA matchmaking forcing players onto distant servers
  • High-ping Killers having advantage on regular attacks
  • Pallet stun validation feeling inconsistent
  • Sudden ping spikes during peak hours
  • Shader compilation stutters (not network but frequently confused with lag)

How to Fix It

Try these first — they're free and solve the problem for most people.

01 Change your Steam download region to match the closest server

1. Open Steam > Settings > Downloads 2. Change 'Download Region' to the city closest to the DBD server you want 3. Restart Steam completely 4. This can influence which DBD server region matchmaking prefers 5. Try different nearby regions and check your in-game ping

Can reduce ping by 20-50ms if your default Steam region routes to a suboptimal DBD server.

02 Use Ethernet and disable WiFi

1. Connect PC directly to router with Ethernet cable 2. In Windows Settings > Network, disable WiFi adapter 3. This prevents Windows from routing traffic over WiFi 4. Launch DBD and check your ping — it should be lower and more stable

Eliminates 2-10ms of WiFi latency and removes wireless jitter. Critical for consistent pallet timing and Dead Hard activation.

03 Verify game files and repair EAC

1. In Steam Library, right-click Dead by Daylight > Properties > Local Files 2. Click 'Verify integrity of game files' 3. Navigate to the DBD install folder > EasyAntiCheat 4. Run EasyAntiCheat_Setup.exe and click 'Repair' 5. Restart your PC and launch the game

Fixes corrupted game files and EAC installation that can cause connection drops and disconnects mid-match.

General network tips (not Dead by Daylight-specific)
04 Check your ping in the settings menu

1. Open Dead by Daylight and go to Settings 2. Look at the Network section — your ping to the game server is displayed 3. In the lobby, check the ping indicator icon next to your name 4. A green icon means good connection (<60ms), yellow is moderate (60-100ms), red is poor (>100ms) 5. If your ping is consistently red, network optimization will help significantly

Doesn't fix anything — but shows you your current connection quality. Essential first step before trying other fixes.

05 Flush DNS and reset network stack

1. Open Command Prompt as Administrator 2. Run: ipconfig /flushdns 3. Run: netsh winsock reset 4. Run: netsh int ip reset 5. Restart your PC 6. Launch DBD and check if ping improved

Clears stale DNS cache and resets network settings. Quick fix for sudden ping increases that appeared after a Windows or router update.

06 Set QoS priority on your router

Access router admin panel and enable QoS. Prioritize UDP traffic on ports 27000-27031 or prioritize DeadByDaylight-Win64-Shipping.exe by application.

Ensures game packets are processed first, even when other devices are using bandwidth.

Regions with good connectivity

Players in these regions likely won't benefit much from a network optimizer.

  • Western Europe — Frankfurt and Ireland/London servers provide excellent coverage. Most EU ISPs have good peering with AWS. Typical ping 10-40ms.
  • US East Coast — Ohio and Virginia AWS regions provide 10-30ms for most East Coast players. Very high population ensures fast matchmaking.
  • Japan / Korea — Tokyo and Seoul servers provide 10-30ms for local players. Active player base in both regions.

Still lagging? The problem is likely your ISP's routing to the game servers.

PingAim detects Dead by Daylight automatically

No manual config. PingAim identifies Dead by Daylight by process name and routes it through your fastest connection using a kernel-level WFP driver.
