Albion Online

Got a phone and WiFi? That's two connections. PingAim sends Albion-Online.exe through the network interface you choose — phone 5G, Ethernet, or a second ISP — while everything else stays on your main connection. No relay server, no tunnel, no subscription. Albion still talks directly to Sandbox Interactive's Photon servers.

Albion Online switched from Easy Anti-Cheat to BattlEye on July 19, 2023, to combat the significant botting problem the game has historically faced. BattlEye runs a kernel-level driver (BEDaisy.sys) on Windows that monitors processes, memory access patterns, and network traffic for cheat signatures. The main game executable is Albion-Online.exe. BattlEye is particularly focused on detecting the automation bots (gathering bots, combat bots) that have been endemic to Albion Online's economy since launch.

VPN and network optimizers

Network optimization tools are explicitly permitted — Sandbox Interactive partnered with ExitLag and provided free service to players during routing issues in 2023. WTFast lists Albion Online as a supported game. Multiple forum threads confirm players using ExitLag, WTFast, NoPing, and similar services without bans. VPNs are also used by mobile players in Australia and other regions to reduce latency to better servers.

Why ping matters in Albion Online

Latency sensitivity High

Ping noticeably shapes the experience.

Albion Online has no client-side prediction for combat and no lag compensation. Every skill activation requires a server round-trip before the effect registers — pressing a button at 100ms ping means a 100ms gap before the effect appears. The Raaen 2014 cross-genre survey (https://www.ntnu.no/ojs/index.php/nikt/article/view/5252) places action-MMO ability-cast genres in the tolerance band where 50–150ms is broadly playable but timing-critical interactions degrade above that range — consistent with community reports for Albion. In GvG and ZvZ scenarios this matters: healers miss windows, damage dealers cast at targets that have already moved, and crowd control lands too late to interrupt. Kiting, dodging, and gap-closing mechanics all suffer when there is a perceptible delay between input and response. Sandbox Interactive has publicly acknowledged that ISP-level routing problems on certain paths degrade competitive play.

About Albion Onlinebackground, studio, esports scene

Albion Online is a sandbox MMORPG developed and published by Sandbox Interactive, a Berlin-based studio. Released in full on July 17, 2017 after an extended beta period, the game became free-to-play in 2019. It operates on a classless character system where equipment determines role and playstyle — there are no fixed character classes, and any character can wield any weapon or wear any armor. The game features a fully player-driven economy: nearly all gear is crafted from resources gathered by players, and the global marketplace connects buyers and sellers across the server. The world is divided into safe blue zones, contested yellow zones, and full-loot PvP red and black zones, giving players meaningful risk-reward decisions with every session.

Albion Online runs on Unity with Photon Server as its networking middleware. Game state is transmitted over Photon's reliable UDP protocol, while movement messages use unreliable UDP for lower latency. The game launched with a single Americas server hosted in Washington D.C., added an East server in Singapore in 2020, and launched the Europe server in April 2024 — a milestone that drove all-time player records. Each server is completely separate: characters, guilds, economy, and progress do not transfer between servers. Anti-cheat is handled by BattlEye, which replaced Easy Anti-Cheat on July 19, 2023. BattlEye provides kernel-level protection on Windows.

The game has a particularly active and vocal community around connection quality. Large-scale GvG (Guild vs. Guild) battles, ZvZ (Zerg vs. Zerg) encounters, and Crystal League matches are highly latency-sensitive — skill rotations, ability timing, and dodge mechanics all require low-latency connections to execute reliably. Sandbox Interactive has publicly acknowledged ongoing ISP-routing issues for certain regions and partnered with a third-party network-routing service in 2023 as an interim workaround for affected players. The developers have cited plans to expand physical network edge infrastructure and add filtering servers closer to player bases by mid-2026.

PingAim detects Albion Online automatically

No manual config. PingAim identifies Albion Online by process name and routes it through your fastest connection using a kernel-level WFP driver.

When does PingAim help — and when doesn't it?

PingAim helps when...

  • Phone 5G tethering available — route Albion through mobile, free home connection for everything else
  • Both WiFi and Ethernet connected — pick which interface Albion uses instead of letting Windows decide
  • Evening peak-hour congestion on the home line causing jitter spikes during ZvZ or Crystal League matches
  • Playing on Americas server from South America — a second connection (phone 5G or second ISP) sometimes peers differently to Washington D.C.
  • Playing on East server from Australia — a second connection may route to Singapore with less jitter than the primary ISP path
  • Home network congested by household streaming competing with Albion's UDP packets during fights
  • Streaming or recording at the same time — keep OBS/upload on one connection and the game on the other

Won't help when...

  • Only one active network connection with no phone to tether — no second path available
  • Already stable on your chosen server with no jitter — the game already plays smoothly
  • Server-side overload during peak ZvZ events — no client fix for server processing delays
  • Both your connections route through the same upstream ISP — interface choice cannot escape a shared bottleneck
  • FPS drops and stuttering from insufficient GPU/CPU — client-side performance, not network
  • BattlEye anti-cheat is kernel-level — use PingAim in WFP-driver mode only, do not enable DLL-injection mode
